Ingredients:
- 450 g lean ground beef
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 small onion, finely diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 120 ml ketchup
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tbsp yellow mustard
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp brown sugar
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 8 slices sandwich bread
- 8 slices cheddar cheese
- 2 tbsp softened butter (for spreading on bread)
Directions:
- Preheat a large skillet over medium heat.
- Cook the ground beef and onion until the beef is browned. Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute, then drain any excess grease.
- Stir in the ketchup, tomato paste, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 5–7 minutes until thickened.
- Butter one side of each bread slice. Place 4 slices, butter-side down, on a clean skillet. Add a slice of cheddar, spoon the Sloppy Joe mixture on top, then add another slice of cheddar.
- Top with the remaining bread slices, butter-side up, and cook for 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown and the cheese is melted.
- Slice the sandwiches in half.
- Garnish with chopped parsley if desired and serve hot with fries, chips, or a fresh salad.
