Ingredients
1 lb ground beef
1/2 onion, diced
1/2 bell pepper, diced
2 clove garlic, chopped or grated
1 can(s) crushed tomatoes 14.5 ounces
1/2 c ketchup
3 Tbsp bbq sauce
1/4 c brown sugar, firmly packed
1 Tbsp balsamic vinegar
1 Tbsp yellow mustard
salt and pepper to taste
8 to 10 slice american or cheddar cheese
8 to 10 slice bread
1/4 c butter, room temperature
sliced dill pickles, optional
Directions
1. Brown ground beef with onion and bell pepper, drain off fat. Add chopped garlic and cook for a minute more.
2. Add remaining ingredients except bread cheese and butter. Simmer on med low until sauce is reduced and thick, about 15-20 minutes
3. Butter one side of each slice of bread, place one slice of cheese on the unbuttered side the add two heaping spoons of sloppy joe mixture and pickles if desired then another slice of cheese and the other slice of bread.
4. Griiddle on medium heat till toasty brown, turn and griddle the other side. Enjoy.
