Taco Pizza

To make a delicious taco pizza from scratch, you will need the following ingredients:

For the dough:

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water (around 110°F/43°C)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

For the toppings:

  • 1 pound ground beef or chicken
  • 1 packet (about 2 tablespoons) taco seasoning
  • ½ cup taco sauce or salsa
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup diced tomatoes
  • ½ cup diced onions
  • ¼ cup sliced black olives
  • 2 tablespoons diced jalapeños (optional)
  • Shredded lettuce (for garnish, optional)

Optional toppings:

  • Sour cream
  • Guacamole
  • Salsa

Now let’s proceed with the steps to make taco pizza:

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and sugar. In a separate small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water and let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes foamy.
  3. Pour the yeast mixture and olive oil into the bowl with the dry ingredients. Stir until a dough forms.
  4. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour as needed.
  5. Roll out the dough into your desired pizza shape and thickness. Transfer it to a greased baking sheet or a pizza stone.
  6. In a skillet, cook the ground beef or chicken over medium heat until fully cooked. Drain any excess grease. Add the taco seasoning and follow the instructions on the packet to prepare the meat filling.
  7. Spread the taco sauce or salsa evenly over the pizza dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
  8. Sprinkle the cooked and seasoned ground beef or chicken over the sauce.
  9. Spread a layer of shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheese on top of the meat.
  10. Sprinkle diced tomatoes, onions, black olives, and jalapeños over the cheese.
  11. Place the pizza in the preheated oven and bake for about 12-15 minutes or until the crust turns golden and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  12. Once the pizza is cooked, remove it from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. You can sprinkle shredded lettuce on top as a garnish if desired.
  13. Slice the taco pizza into wedges and serve hot. You can also serve it with optional toppings like sour cream, guacamole, or salsa.
