Here’s a simple recipe for making buttermilk biscuits:

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  3. Add the cold butter to the dry ingredients. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs. The butter should be evenly distributed throughout the mixture.
  4. Make a well in the center of the mixture and pour in the buttermilk. Stir gently with a fork or wooden spoon until the dough comes together. Be careful not to overmix; the dough should be slightly sticky but not too wet.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Sprinkle a little flour on top of the dough to prevent sticking. Gently knead the dough a few times, folding it over itself, until it becomes smooth.
  6. Roll out the dough to a thickness of about 1/2 inch (1.3 cm). Use a biscuit cutter or a round cookie cutter to cut out biscuits from the dough. Place the biscuits onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving a small gap between each biscuit.
  7. Gather the remaining dough scraps, gently knead them together, and roll out again to cut out more biscuits. Repeat this process until all the dough is used.
  8. Bake the biscuits in the preheated oven for about 12 to 15 minutes, or until they are golden brown on top. Keep an eye on them as baking times may vary depending on your oven.
  9. Once baked, remove the biscuits from the oven and transfer them to a wire rack to cool slightly. Serve warm.

These buttermilk biscuits are delicious on their own, or you can serve them with butter, jam, gravy, or any other toppings of your choice. Enjoy!
